First on the fox: A survivor of communism in the Soviet Union is jumping in the race to replace the late representative Gerry Connolly, D-VA.

Karina Lipsman told Fox News Digital that his family fled the USSR as a child and that his childhood in the United States began with a single mother, raising her in low-income homes in Baltimore.

“We left socialism and towards the North -American Dream. We came here because America was freedom, hard work and the possibility of building something better,” said Lipsman, a Republican.

“We did not speak English when we arrived. But I worked hard, I kept down and won all the steps to get to where I am today. I became a citizen at the age of 18. I put myself in college and undergraduate school.”

Lipsman, who is currently working for the Victims Memorial Foundation of Communism, also praised President Donald Trump and said he believed that the country was in a direction similar to the situation that his family fled.

“We have had an expanding government, a small middle class and a growing dependence on the state. We have been slipping on what made this country fantastic,” he said. “Luckily, we have a Donald Trump disorder that fights against the status quo, but it needs more allies because the political class is too focused on fame, clicks and climbing stairs.”

Lipsman is the last candidate to jump on the race for the eleventh district of Virginia Congress, a solidly democratic part of Washington’s suburbs, DC.

Virginia governor Glenn Youngkin announced on Tuesday that special elections to fill the Connolly seat will be September 9.

The deceased Democrat, who died of esophagus cancer in late May, had been representing the district since 2009. Connolly had announced in April that he would not seek re -election for his health.

Prior to Connolly, the seat was celebrated by former Republican President Tom Davis from 1995 to 2008.

However, since then, it has changed much more to the left. The Cooking Non -Party Political Index values the D+18 District, and Connolly defeated the Republican Challenges by more than 30 points in each of the last three election cycles.

Lipsman previously ran to the chamber in the district of the 8th neighboring Congress of Virginia, but lost to Don Beyer’s representative, D-VA. She argued, however, that voters were hungry for “work horses” and said that he could meet this demand.

“We need leaders who put their heads and do the hard work to solve what is broken,” said Lipsman.
